Journal Week 05 — Events in Big Tech?
An amazing week with events and new responsibilities.
Brief
Hi, this week was fun in terms of team activities, work, and friendships.
What’s new?
First of all, the week had something new for me that I really liked. As a fun fact, which can be inferred from my About Me page, I am Mexican. Why is this important? Because we will soon have a holiday known as Independence Day. I have really liked that it has not gone unnoticed at Oracle, which not only gives us the legally mandated day off but also grants us an additional half-day off and held an interesting mini event a week beforehand, which I enjoyed. There was food, games, among other things.
How is professional work going?
This week, I had a small review with my team. Among other things, I had lost a bit of speed with my activities. I was glad to hear the feedback, but I would like even more to take it into account and speed up a little in some areas. So, I started implementing AI skills and other scripts to eliminate the tedious, boring part of my work, which my team noticed as an improvement, and I have liked that.
How are other things going?
Since I joined Oracle, I have thought that I have had few side projects, or perhaps I am not learning as much as I should be able to. So, I took advantage of friendships I already had and friendships formed within the Big Tech world to start small side projects with the goal of not getting too rusty and practicing hard skills more often.
Learning and progress
This week, I had a good starting point: feedback from my team. Now, I have started noting down skills and AI uses for tedious tasks that I know can be automated or that can help me complete them more quickly.
Next steps
-
I need to start planning my intern project.
-
I should manage my time better. I think personal life is important, as is progress on projects, and I would like to balance them better with my workload.
Reflections
This week, I was able to see AI being used to automate work that I did not want to do and that was simply filler before tasks that really required more important reasoning. I think that is the right way to see AI.
Over the next few days, I will be working on my intern and personal projects, seeking balance with my time. I will try to improve in the same areas.
